Peter Ringgaard (DK)

The highly talented and ambitious artist Peter Ringgaard grew up in Silkeborg and today works artistically in Tisvilde, Copenhagen, and notably in Chiang Mai, Thailand. His background includes experiences at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen, the Jutland Art Academy, Aarhus, and the Danish Film School, Copenhagen. Together, these form the foundation for his internationally recognized career as a sculptor, visual artist, and film director.

With studios in both Denmark and Thailand, Ringgaard focuses on human nature, a theme clearly reflected in his artistic work. Through thought-provoking and detailed figurative paintings and hand-carved wooden sculptures, he explores relationships, moods, and narratives with a pronounced sensitivity to both the poetic and the sensual, always keeping the human at the center. His striking and attention-grabbing sculptures are executed in fallen jamjuree wood (acacia) from Thailand, where the natural structures, knots, and grain of the material become an active and beautiful part of the works’ powerful expression.

Ringgaard’s approach to art is both sensual and poetic. The artist portrays his fascination with Oriental culture, the human being, and the contrasts with our modern society. Drawing on his background as a film director, he also works with narrative and visual awareness. His experience in film is evident in the composition of his works and in their storytelling dimension, which invites viewers to interpret them personally.

Throughout his long career as a film director, Peter Ringgaard has travelled the world and lived abroad for many years, including in Bangkok, the Middle East, and Los Angeles. The cultures of Asia, in particular, have been a significant source of inspiration in the creation of his works. In short, Peter Ringgaard is a remarkable storyteller and a talented film director with multiple award-winning productions to his name, spanning documentaries, feature films, and TV series.

Peter Ringgaard has received considerable recognition for his artistic work and recently held exhibitions in 2024 in Bangkok, Singapore, and Copenhagen, followed by New York in 2025.

It is with great pleasure that, from 2026 onward, we can present Ringgaard’s works at Galleri V58.
